Summary

BizGees is an innovation driven enterprise using alternative finance for financial inclusion dedicated to improving refugees’ access to the financial tools they need to succeed. They are a born global finTech startup supporting two different refugee communities.  One community is in Northern Pakistan where 2.5 million people experienced displacement. The second community is in Uganda and Kenya.

Each community has a bespoke financial solution custom designed for its unique needs.  For example, in the Swat Valley the financial service is a trade finance solution designed to support female artisans gain access to paid for work and in Uganda and Kenya it is a micro franchise fee loan designed to support refugees access training, inventory and business mentoring.

Investment Thesis

BizGees is the winner of the Infosys Challenge for Financial Inclusion at the UNICEF FinTech Jam for Good. They transform refugees into entrepreneurs using the latest developments in finTech like crypto currency, augmented reality and crowd funding. BizGees generate bespoke financial services meeting the unique needs of the refugee communities they support.

Potential Refugee Impact

In addition to their interest-free microfinance offerings, BizGees focuses on jobs and wealth creation in the refugee communities it supports. In Uganda and Kenya, they provide comprehensive services to refugees entrepreneurs including formal training, initial inventory, and on-going business support.  These efforts are supported artists in the developed world as part of the arts4refugees campaign. BizGees also works with designers as well, supporting refugee artisans in the Swat Valley via local delivery partners Swat Valley Guild. Each unit sold is equivalent to 4 days worth of work for these artisans.
