From RIN to ATIN, the Refugee / Trafficking Nexus
Refugees are disproportionately affected by human trafficking due to their economic, social, and legal vulnerabilities:
- 24.9 million people are in forced labor globally, with 70% of identified trafficking victims being migrants or refugees [ILO];
- 40% of refugees in certain regions reported encountering smuggling networks, which often lead to trafficking [IOM];
- 25% of trafficking cases in Europe are linked to migrants or refugees [Europol].
Effective policies, including strengthening protections, improving legal pathways for migration, and addressing root causes of displacement, are critical in reducing trafficking risks among FDPs.

The Anti-Trafficking Investment Lens
The “Anti-Trafficking Lens,” developed by ATIN, is an investing framework to qualify and track investments over time and to respond to the question: “What investments influence the fight against trafficking?” This tool provides investors with a lens to assess and qualify prospective and historical deals as anti-trafficking investments. It provides the “how” for those committed to the “why”.
